Discussion Board assignments and grading
(The following is adapted from Midwestern Baptist Theological
Seminary and Liberty Baptist Seminary)
For each week’s Discussion Board assignment, the student will do the
following:
Main posting: By 8:00am on Monday morning of each week, the
instructor will post a question that is related to the assigned
reading. Each student is asked to answer the instructor’s assigned
topic by Thursday night of the week.
Peer posting: By Sunday night of the same week, the student will
need to have responded to the main postings of two students in
his/her class section.
These postings will be evaluated by the instructor in accordance
with the following criteria, with some differences between the
standards that apply to Rounds One and Two, respectively.
Evaluation of Main Postings:
there are three questions that the instructor will ask in evaluating
each student’s response and resultant grade. The relative value of
each criterion follows in parentheses:
1. Is the student articulate? In other words, is his response
written in clear, grammatically-correct English, with proper
spelling, punctuation, and capitalization? [33%]
2. Is the student’s response accurate and directly relevant to the
instructor’s assigned topic? [33%]
3. Does the response give evidence of significant familiarity with
the assigned readings or video viewings? [33%]
Evaluation of Peer Responses.
The following criteria will be used to evaluate each student’s
responses to his fellow, online classmates. The relative value of
each criterion follows in parentheses:
1. Is the student articulate? In other words, is his response
written in clear, grammatically-correct English, with proper
spelling, punctuation, and capitalization? [33%]
2. Is the student’s response to his classmate’s main posting
expressed in a polite and constructive manner? [33%]
3. Is the student’s response to his classmate’s main posting
insightful and/or helpful in clarifying the issues? [33%]
